Do you have a picky eater at home who loves a particular food one day but dislikes it the next? As a parent of two picky eaters, I know the struggle all too well. Mealtime can become a constant battle. My daughter loves pizza, but my son dislikes red pizza sauce. However, I’ve discovered the perfect air fryer tortilla pizza formula that satisfies both of their fancies without costing too much time, money, and calories. It’s a simple and quick recipe (or formula since you fill in the blanks) that can be easily adjusted to suit your child’s preferences.

BONUS TIP: Involve Your Kid(s) in the Air Fryer Tortilla Pizza Prep Process!

Involving your child in the meal preparation process can increase their likelihood of enjoying the meal. Wait, my child will ACTUALLY eat their food? You bet! A small study suggested that kids are more likely to eat their food if THEY help make it. Thank you, science! I have found this to be true with my own children, and honestly, it makes sense! Kids strive for independence. If Melianna or Xander help prepare the meal, leftovers never reach the refrigerator.

With this in mind, try one of the coloring cookbooks I created. They have kid-friendly recipes in picture format (pizza is one), so little ones can create beautiful masterpieces in the kitchen and on paper. In other words, let your child join in on the kitchen fun and bake memories together!

We sell My First Coloring Cookbook on Amazon as a paperback book that is delivered to your home and Etsy as an instant PDF digital download.

Equipment

Ingredients

  • 1 tortilla or lavash flatbread. Any type of tortilla or flatbread would work. I use the Lavash flatbread so I can customize each half for my kids’ personal preferences.
  • 1-2 teaspoons olive oil. Just enough to brush on the tortilla.
  • 2-4 tablespoons pizza sauce. Use more or less depending on your kiddo’s preferences). My daughter prefers red sauce, so I use Little Italy Marinara from Costco. It has less sodium and sugar per serving compared to most other red sauces. My son does not like red sauce, so I use Good Foods Avocado Salsa on his half. The amount used is completely the child’s preference.
  • Shredded Mozzarella cheese. The amount used is also the child’s preference.
  • 1 pinch dried oregano. This is optional, but it makes a big difference. I only put it on Melianna’s half of the pizza since she prefers the traditional pizza flavor. Only a little is needed to enhance the flavor of the pizza.

Instructions

Gather all of your chosen ingredients.

Preheat the air fryer, or oven, to the “pizza” setting or 400℉. Preferably the air fryer when looking for the quickest and cheapest method. I go into further detail about how the air fryer is one of my most valuable kitchen assets in money-saving strategies.

Place the tortilla or lavash flatbread onto the baking sheet/air fryer basket and brush with olive oil. For a crispier crust, prebake the crust for about 3 minutes. My kids prefer the less crispy crust, but as I have previously mentioned, that could change tomorrow.

Add the sauce of choice to the tortilla. If your little one prefers a less saucy pizza, use a pastry brush to distribute the sauce evenly.

Add the cheese and any other toppings of your choice. Since my kids are picky, I stick with plain, boring cheese. If using, sprinkle on the dried oregano.

Bake for about 8-10 minutes (this includes the prebake time), depending on your cooking method. Since oven temperatures vary greatly, check the tortilla pizza after 6 minutes. If you use the air fryer, your baking time will be shorter.
