Nursing is both challenging and rewarding. On tough days, it’s important to celebrate even the smallest victories and to find humor in little moments. Doing so can make the more difficult days in nursing much more enjoyable. Side thought: This sounds a lot like parenting, too!
Not to mention, helping others in vulnerable situations adds a poetic quality to nursing. It reveals a side of the world you may have never known existed. This profession can profoundly impact your humanity; it can either deepen your empathy toward others or lead to feelings of bitterness. Unfortunately, bitterness and burnout are common amongst seasoned nurses.
For that reason, I find it extremely important to find humor and sarcasm in nursing anytime the opportunity arises and is appropriate. Therefore, I’ve made 36 nursing memes with all of the quotes I used in the Nurse Coloring Book I sell on Amazon or our blog shop as a downloadable file. I am all for my patients having a good poop, but sometimes after cleaning up a big “code brown”, this is how I feel.
