Magnetic ramp walls are a favorite of children (including ours), often spotted in play areas or educational institutions. However, if you want to buy one for your home, it can be pretty expensive. Edgar has ingeniously created an affordable and straightforward version for our kids (and anyone who enjoys his ideas). You only need a few easily obtainable items.

Edgar chose to attach the one he created to our garage door using magnets. One perk with this method is that you can still open and close the garage door without disturbing any of the ramps. But don’t limit yourself; you can fix it anywhere with a magnetic surface or use double-sided tape to secure it to a wall.

We’ll show you how to create an easy and thrifty Magnetic STEM toy that will captivate your child’s imagination while fostering essential science, technology, engineering, and math skills. Get ready to embark on a fun-filled journey of discovery where learning and play seamlessly come together. Let’s dive in and unlock the wonders of Magnetic STEM exploration for your 4-year-old!

What You’ll Need

  • 10ft vinyl bull nose corner piece
  • Magnets (preferred method) or double-sided tape. Edgar used sticky magnets in his video, which is ideal for attaching the ramps to the fridge or garage door. Use double-sided tape to mount the ramps on a wall if a garage door is unavailable.
  • Scissors

Magnetic STEM Toy Process

The process of creating this magnetic ramp could not be easier. All you need to do is cut the vinyl piece into various smaller pieces of your chosen lengths. Also, make sure to round out the ends to remove any sharp edges.

Then attach your adhesive of choice/magnets and affix the ramps to your garage, fridge, wall, or even car (yes, Edgar did this to his truck).

Experiment with different ramp sizes and pathways, and involve your child in designing the ramp’s route. Remember, learning and play typically go hand in hand, and with this thrifty and engaging toy, you can create unforgettable moments of discovery for your 4-year-old. Not only balls but water can travel down the ramp and reach the bottom. However, we like to keep the water method outdoors (but you do you). Edgar made the water more exciting by adding food coloring, which undeniably caught Meli and Xander’s attention.
